Z176: Zero Refrigerator

Want!

Again, TED Talks offers a wealth of fabulous information, "ideas worth spreading". This video of this design for the world without electricity and refrigeration. I won’t explain the science of this except to say one can heat a small thing (size of an iron) and let it cool, put it in something else (3 gal. vessel) and it keeps things cool for 24 hours. They are on the 5th prototype and creators believe they can produce it for $25-$40.

Today, I am making the decision whether to eliminate my refrigerator. Stay tuned . . .

Wonderful! I love TEDTalks. I've thought of going fridge-free too [thanks to Greenpa], but I'd never win over my son and his girlfriend, who live with me. They buy all kinds of frozen/refrigerated food and then let it sit until it's no good. If I was living alone, I'd do it. Someday...

Funny you mention your son. Today I was thinking through my steps to the zero refrigerator in my world and I told my son he could have it.

He doesn't want it! My commercial grade undercounter refrigerator is being rejected for an old mobile home style refrigerator because it has a freezer (about 12" square). Cracks me up. He is is the general manager of a full restaurant across the street, so finding a cubic foot in a freezer isn't a big deal. Ah convenience, it is killing us all.
